Skincare 101 - How Much Product & How To Apply It

For all my visual learners, here is your cheat sheet for the amount of product you should be using. Remember, less is more and a little bit can go a long way.

I had always had a tendency to use too much product (common mistake). I guess I just figured my skin needed the extra love but didn't know that I was actually compromising the integrity of my skin, causing more damage than good. Yikes!

Learn from my mistakes and use the guide above for the amount of product you should use. Then follow the steps below for proper application of each product.

Step 1 - Cleanser

  • Gently apply product and rinse with lukewarm water. Be gentle and avoid harsh and vigorous rubbing. When using quality products, they do the work for you. Makes for a more relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Step 2 - Toner to balance your complexion

  • I like to apply my toner to my skin while it is still damp so that the product will absorb into my skin.

Step 3 - Serum

  • Again, a little goes a long way.

  • Serums can be layered to attack multiple problems at once.

Step 4 - Moisturizer (Day Cream/Night Cream)

  • Too much can limit your skin's ability to properly absorb what is needed and could clog your pores.

  • Keep it light with an upward sweeping motion while applying the product to your chest, neck and face.

Step 5 - Eye Cream

  • I personally use very small amounts of eye cream and avoid applying close to my eyes due to my skin being sensitive and easily irritated.

  • I like to apply my eye cream just above my cheek bones (from nose to outer eye)

  • I pat my eye cream into my skin making sure I don't leave any excess product on my skin.

Step 6 - SPF for AM Routine!!

  • Saving the best for last! This is a must. No Excuses!

  • If you are not already in the habit, it's time to make it a habit.

  • Don't forget your ears, lips and the back of your neck and hands (regularly forgotten spots)

I hope that this step-by-step, quick guide is helpful. :)
